Open Letter from Donna Marie Kennedy, Provincial President

Appended you will find an open letter from our Provincial President outlining our ongoing concern with some of the Catholic School Boards who have refused to remove themselves as providers despite the direction the Minister of Education is taking in eliminating the PLP’S. As a local executive we have passed a motion that we will continue to provide conference funding to non-provider organizations only.

Message to the Minister of Education

Teachers will recall the letter from the Minister received on December 19, 2003 in which he indicated that recertification and the PLP process will be eliminated. You will notice from the open letter from our Provincial President, Donna Marie Kennedy, there remains concern about those School Boards who do not want to retract their provider status.

It is important that the Minister of Education hear directly from teachers in the field the importance of the government eliminating PLP’s and providers completely. It is the PLP’s and provider structure which demands an expensive bureaucratic structure within the College of Teachers to monitor the 14 courses of the 180,000 members of the College.

We ask that you take a couple of minutes and use the appended letter as a model to send a message to the Minister of Education. Every letter counts and does make a difference.

Honouring Tom Barr

There will be a reception held in honour of Tom Barr, who served as trustee representing Leeds County for more than 20 years. Tom worked tirelessly in the best interest of Catholic education across the Board to secure the best for our system, our students and our teachers. The reception will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at the St. John Bosco Parish Centre, Brockville from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please join us.
