AGM
As reported in OECTA’s E-agenda, after much debate, the motion to incorporate ECE’s as part of the union did not pass at the AGM. The vote was 65% in favour, but a 90% vote was required to make the changes to the constitution that would have allowed for this to happen.

One another note, congratulations to Andrew Donihee, who successfully ran at the AGM for the position of Councillor on Provincial Executive. We wish him much success in his new role which he assumes as of July 1st!

Benefits
As previously reported, benefit negotiations have come to a stand still as the Board maintains its position that it will not entertain any benefit improvement costs beyond what is provided for in the Provincial Discussion Table agreement. This is despite the fact that our teachers’ benefits are some of the worst in Eastern Ontario. Furthermore, the Board is sitting on a $1.6 million dollar surplus in its benefit fund. Since all boards have equal benefit funding, there is no reason that CDSBEO teachers could not enjoy the same level of benefits as those of their colleagues across the province.

Dale Fobert and I will be visiting schools in the coming few weeks to share further information on benefit negotiations and let teachers know what they can do to support the negotiating team.

Teaching Assignment Requests
Per Article 36.03 in the Collective Agreement, teachers may submit to their principal by April 1st teaching assignment requests and duty preferences for the next school year. Some schools have developed forms for this purpose, but for those that haven’t, a form that can be used is attached. Staff Reps are asked to ensure that these forms get distributed to all teachers.
