Teacher Development Fund ($512)
Friday, June 2, 2006 is the deadline for submission of receipts totalling $512 for the Teacher Development Fund. The form is available in your school. Send the information to the attention of Karen McDowell at the Central Board Office.
Inclement weather days should be over for this school year! However … principals should have received a memo and form regarding teacher absence due to inclement weather. Article 41.03 states “In the event that bus transportation is cancelled due to inclement weather but schools remain open, teachers will make a reasonable effort to report to the school.” In discussion at Joint Labour Management, it was agreed that no teacher should place themselves at risk on inclement weather days. Should you be absent, there is a form to complete and give to your principal within three days. This is to ensure proper recording of the absence for pay purposes. The form will then be destroyed.
Teacher Initiated Transfers Article 33.03
We met with Human Resources on Friday to review information received from teachers requesting a transfer, and to compare lists to ensure all requests were received by the Board. The Board is meeting again early this week to deal with these requests. Teachers whose transfers are approved will be notified by May 15th. Teachers not granted transfers by the 15th will be given consideration for vacancies matching the request and qualifications before hiring of new staff. Postings start on May 31st. Even if you have requested a transfer, you may wish to apply for a vacancy when it is posted.

OPSEU STRIKE AT ONTARIO TEACHERS’ PENSION PLAN BOARD
On April 22, 2006, 255 staff of the OTPP began a strike. A letter of support from OTF, signed by the affiliate presidents, has been sent to OPSEU Local 598. Replacement workers have been hired. Normally it takes a year’s training for new hires to make pension calculations, answer questions and give timely advice about retirement. Questions to ask if you call OTPP: Is my private information secure? Is it being accessed by replacement workers, or managers at home? Will the work stoppage have any effects on deadlines for transferring service, interest charges on purchasing credit, or delays in pension payments? Can you guarantee that the answers received about pension (buyback, termination options, service verification for this year’s retirees) are accurate and from a pension expert? Ask for answers in writing.
Call Claude Lamoureux, CEO, (1-800-668-0105) to voice your concerns. Solutions come at the bargaining table. Replacement workers dealing with our pension information is not acceptable. An on-line petition can be accessed at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Ontario_Teachers_Pension_Plan.
