Happy Labour Day
Highlights in Canadian Labour History was published by CBC on Friday September 4, 2015. Many of our working conditions came about because workers united to bring about positive changes. Such things as the 40 hour work week, paid vacation, workers compensation, pension plans, maternity leave, statutory holidays, and many other rights that have become about because of unions and the labour movement. Today is a day to remember the workers who fought for your working rights and celebrate the labour movement that continues to ensure workers are treated fairly on a daily basis. Stand Proud and Stand Together as we celebrate this Labour day. Click Here to read the CBC article.

Welcome Back
Welcome back to a new school year everyone! We hope that you had a good and restful break as you prepare for the transition from holiday to full steam ahead! Here are a few important information items we’d like to share with you:

Tentative Agreement Information Meeting

Where: Brockville Memorial Centre 1 Magedoma Blvd
When: Thursday September 10, 2015 5:30 p.m.

As you are all aware, we have reached a tentative agreement at the Provincial Bargaining table, which was unanimously endorsed by the Provincial Executive and endorsed by the Council of Presidents. On September 17th, the entire membership will have an opportunity to vote on the proposed provincial agreement . In order for members to be fully apprised of what is in the agreement as well as an opportunity to have your questions answered, we will be having an information meeting. Representatives from the Provincial Executive as well as from the Collective Bargaining department will be on hand to answer questions. This is your contract and working conditions, therefore it is in your best interest to come to the meeting so that you fully understand the conditions proposed and can make an informed decision on voting day. The Boards will be having their ratification vote on September 21st. If the provincial agreement is ratified by all parties, we will then begin the second phase of bargaining, local negotiations. Most articles in the provincial agreement will only be recognized when there is a locally ratified agreement as well. Local negotiations will begin after all parties have ratified.

Reminder: Until the initial proposal is ratified by the membership, the terms of the proposal are confidential to OECTA members.

2015-16 Absence Tracking Form
At the end of each school year, the Board sends letters to members who have gone over the 5 extra leave days, advising them that they will be deducted pay for each day they have gone over. It is extremely important to track these days to ensure that you do not exceed these days and have evidence to provide Human Resources. To that end, we have developed a simple but effective tracking sheet for this purpose. Click Here to download this form.
