Election 2007

A reminder to all teachers – get involved in the campaign. This election is about the future of publicly funded education – about preserving public health care – about investing in Ontario’s public services not cutting billions of dollars.

Make sure you get involved – go to an all candidates meeting, call your candidates campaign office, get a sign or volunteer to do some canvassing.

Ottawa Senators Tickets

Special group pricing for Eastern OECTA members on some Ottawa Senator’s games is now available on line at www.easternoecta.ca . Use the password found on the homepage and follow the link to order your tickets. The tickets will be available for you at the Scotiabank Place box office on arrival.

Part-time Teachers and PA Days

According to Article 47 of the Collective Agreement, “part-time teachers are encouraged to attend the full Professional Development Day and will be remunerated on a pro-rata basis.” If you are a part-time teacher and you attend the full day of a Professional Activity Day, speak to your secretary and principal to make sure that this is reported to payroll and that you are compensated accordingly.

Staff Reps- Reminders

Please take a few minutes with your staff to complete the working conditions survey. Membership data information from Provincial Office will be arriving at your school soon. Please get teachers to update their information and return the envelope to the Unit Office.

LTD Flex Plan Review

Every 3 years teachers are afforded the opportunity to change their selected LTD option. We have two options available to us: Option 1 has a 55% benefit level at a cost of 1.31%; Option 2 has a 55% benefit level + a 2% COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) at a cost of 1.47%. The kits for Staff Reps to conduct a meeting in which teachers make their selection will be sent out the week of October 2nd. Teachers must return their completed forms to the Staff Rep by no later than October 17th. Please be on the look out for the kits, as they are time-sensitive. This year, teachers on extended leaves will receive their kits directly by mail.
