Bargaining Continues
We hope everyone continues to receive the updates being sent to you by the Collective Bargaining Department at Provincial OECTA. As the last update indicted, OECTA will be meeting with the Trustee and Government representatives on August 12th and 13th to continue negotiations in order to reach a fair settlement for teachers and students. We certainly hope that this does occur, but we must continue to be prepared in the event the two sides are unable to secure a deal before the start of the school year.

Work to Rule (W2R)
The Provincial Bargaining Update you received on July 9 indicated that OECTA is in a legal strike position as of August 17, 2015, and if required, a Work to Rule will begin on the first paid day of the upcoming school year. For teachers with CDSBEO, our first paid day of the school year is September 3rd. If no fair settlement has been reached, the Work to Rule will go into effect on that day and teachers are required to follow the Guidelines. A link to the Work to Rule Guidelines as well as Work to Rule FAQ’s has been provided below. Until the Work to Rule officially begins (Sept 3), teachers are able to go into their classrooms to prepare, but are NOT required to attend any meetings or be in the school for any meet and greet with students and/or parents. Teachers may go in as they wish, but are NOT required to do so prior to the first day of the school year.

Information Meeting
Just a reminder that we are holding an information meeting at 5:30 on September 10, at the Brockville Memorial Center. Given that, at this time, we are anticipating job action of sort in the fall, this is an important meeting that we ask all teachers to attend. As well, it is imperative that teachers continue to read all Provincial Bargaining Updates throughout the summer. Things can change quickly at the bargaining table- keep informed!
