Applications for the Joan Kamps Memorial Bursaries for members who pursue post-graduate studies or professional development activities (i.e. AQ or University courses) are available at www.oecta.ca. Individuals may be awarded up to $1000. Applications are due by May 15, 2006. A list of this past year’s recipients is found in the AGENDA.

Information on Provincial scholarships and fellowships can be found in the OECTA Handbook on pages 59-60 and on the website.

Contract Update
Elementary teachers, as part of their preparation and planning time, had the afternoon of October 27th (Early Dismissal day) as teacher directed time. On Friday, November 24, the morning of the PA day is traditionally used for parent-teacher interviews and the afternoon is again teacher directed time for elementary teachers as part of preparation and planning time. Teachers determine the professional activities they will engage in for that time. The afternoon is not principal directed time for meetings, in-services, etc. February 2nd is the next PA day and is totally principal directed.

Lunch for all teachers is 40 minutes uninterrupted, which is time for nourishment, time to spend with other staff members, time to rejuvenate with quiet reflection or a brisk walk, or time to do activities with students if you so choose. It is in the collective agreement, Article 42, and should be in place.

Unit General Meeting/Staff Rep Meeting
Tuesday, November 28, 2006 is the Unit General Meeting to deal with the auditor’s report and budget. Other topics are contract and pension updates, and news from Provincial Office. We will begin at 5 p.m. at St. Michael CHS, Kemptville. The meeting is open to all teachers in the Unit – permanent and occasional.
