Inclement Weather
As was the case yesterday in severe weather, Clause 41.03 states that teachers “will make a reasonable effort to report to the school”.  It has been past practice and it remains the position of OECTA that “the school” referenced in the clause is the teachers regular school.

In the past two years, a practice has been adopted that teachers complete a form upon their return the next day – it is simply a form that you sign indicating that you made an effort and that you were absent from school due to inclement weather.

If you have any questions about this issue, do not hesitate to call the unit office.

CUPE – OECTA Protocol Occasional Teacher Assignments

There was some concern that Occasional Teachers were being assigned the work of a member of another union, for example secretarial work. Article 13.09 of the Occasional Teacher Collective Agreement states that “Each Casual Occasional Teacher shall be assigned only the regularly scheduled supervision duties and work load of the teacher being substituted”. There is nothing that precludes a teacher offering help to others, but the Occasional teacher can not be directed or put in a position to refuse the work of anyone other then the teacher being replaced.

CUPE and OECTA have established a protocol which is attached. It is important to support our colleagues, but we should never perform the work of a member of another union. If you are asked to do so, please contact the Unit Office.
