OECTA Membership Data Forms (Return to the Unit Office)
At the Staff Rep in-service on October 20, reps received a package from Provincial Office with lists to update – member information form, form to request OECTA card, and a form to request an Edvantage card. These forms, and one that updates the staff rep information, were to be corrected and sent to the Unit Office, then we forward them to Toronto. The information is for updating the Unit and the Provincial Office databases. Provincial will send out OECTA and/or Edvantage cards when they receive the forms.
The Eastern Update and sheets on the effect of pension increases sent on Monday had an italicized section under the calculations for each of the three salary levels. It is a little misleading.
At the $60 000 salary level the TPP increase of $46.14 is for the 2007 year, not an increase from December 2006 to January 2007. The increase in January would be $46.14 minus the $36.92 increase which will take effect in September 2007 when the YMPE is reached. The January increase is actually $9.22.
At an $80 000 salary level the January 2007 TPP increase is $12.30 and September is $49.23, resulting in a total increase of $61.53.
The Provincial government has provided funding, through OECTA, for PD for teachers. The FAXAGENDA invites OECTA members to submit proposals on two types of PD – Collaborative Learning Communities and Book Study Groups. Call the Unit Office if you are interested.
Units can also access further funds from PO for PD programs to be held in the Unit. Our Unit PD committee hopes to meet next week to look at the three areas where these monies can be used. More information will be provided after this meeting.
OECTA Retirement Planning Workshop
This excellent workshop was presented in Kemptville in 2004 by Horst Schweinbenz, Counselling and Member Services. It is possible for us to bring Horst and the OECTA retirement workshop back to our Unit. The Saturday session is available February 3 or 10, March 3, or April 28, 2007. The two-hour after school workshops are available most school days in February and March. To bring a presented from Toronto we need over 20 participants.
Please call the Unit Office ASAP if you are interested in attending. Indicate your preference for the Saturday or after school session, and the preferred date.
Approximately 29 OECTA Units across the province have some form of merger. These mergers have proven successful for a variety of reasons. Financially, fee returns are pooled; all members are included in Unit and school meetings; a proposal for occasional teachers to designate a school where they will be included in OECTA meetings and receive communications should improve the flow of information to and from the Unit and Provincial Office. Let us know your questions on merging the permanent and occasional locals.
