Provincial Agreement Ratified
The School Board Trustees and the Government each ratified the Provincial Agreement on September 21st and September 23rd. The Central Terms will form part of our Collective Agreement once we have negotiated and ratified the local component.
Your local Collective Bargaining Committee met on several occasions throughout the last year to put together the Initial Proposal. It is based on feedback you provided through the Collective Bargaining Survey last year. The team is now ready to begin local negotiations. We have secured eight meeting dates with the School Board, with the first one scheduled for October 19th. As you are aware, negotiations are always done in confidence and details are not shared until a tentative agreement has been reached. We will however continue to provide updates throughout the process in order for you to understand how the meetings are progressing.

C.U.P.E. Strike Action
CUPE is now in Phase 2 of their Work-to-Rule with school boards across the province, including CDSBEO. Liz Harrison, CUPE's local President, has asked us to thank you and all teachers for their support during their labour action. As their strike continues, there will probably be more disruptions at school that could affect your class. Please continue to support our brothers and sisters during their Work to Rule.

It is important for teachers to know that during the work day OECTA members must only perform the duties of a teacher. OECTA members must not perform duties that belong to other unionized workers. As well, students must not be allowed to do the work of other unionized workers while under the supervision of an OECTA member.

Provincial OECTA distributed a Collective Bargaining Bulletin yesterday with further information for members.Click Here to download and view a copy of that document.
